Siemens has been manufacturing and selling hearing aids for over 80 years.  They are constantly innovating the industry and are constantly on the cutting edge of technology.  Siemens has two open-fit product lines: Siemens Life and Siemens Pure.  Siemens Life is the open fit air model.  The receiver or speaker is in the hearing aid and the sound travels down a thin tube into the hear.  The Pure is the receiver in canal version.

UPDATE: MAY 2010.  Siemens is releasing an update on their open fit hearing aids.  Siemens hearing aids will soon be Life 701, Life 501, Life 301 and the new entry Life 101.  Siemens has also updated the Pure to the following hearing aids: Pure 701, Pure 501, Pure 301 and the new entry Pure 101.

Siemens Life Open Fit Hearing Aids

siemens lifeSiemens Life comes in four models: Life 101, Life 301(formerly Life 300), Life 501(formerly Life 500) and Life 701(formerly Life 700).  The Life 101 is the introductory aid and the Life 701 is the most advanced.  They will all meet the same hearing loss, but the aids get more feature oriented from the 101 to the 700.  Siemens Life hearing aids replaced the popular Cielo 2, Artis 2 and Centra lines.  Siemens Life aids are perfect for mild to moderate loss.  This hearing aid uses a thin open tube design where the sound travels down the tube into the ear.  Siemens Life aids are very popular and offer a lot of features that people like: multiple listening programs, directional microphones and volume control.  The volume and programs are not controlled on the aid.  You will need on of the three optional remote controls to adjust the volume or change the listening programs.  Cosmetically, the Life is small, although far from the smallest open fit hearing aid.  The casing of the life can also be easily interchanged to allow for different colors including floral patterns!

Siemens Pure Hearing Aids

Like the Siesiemens puremens Life, the Siemens Pure comes in four models: Pure 101, Pure 301(formerly Pure 300), Pure 501(formerly Pure 500) and Pure 701(formerly Pure 700).  The difference between the  Pure and this Life is the Pure is a receiver-in-canal model instead of an air tube model.  The receiver links on the Pure can be taken off and replaced with various power receivers.  There is a 45db receiver for mild loss, a 55db receiver for moderate to severe loss and a 65db receiver for severe to profound loss.  Since the receiver is not inside the hearing aid, the Pure is also slightly smaller than the Siemens Life.  Another advantage of the Siemens Pure is it can be loaded with the rechargeable batteries.  Many people find that this is helpful because often changing batteries is difficult for people with poor dexterity.  Another advantage of the Pure is it has a button on the aid to change the listening programs.

Siemens TEK Remote

The Siemens TEK Remote offers full control over the Siemens Pure and Siemens Life hearing aids.  The Siemens TEK allows you to select the five listening programs and turn up the volume.  The Siemens TEK also will transmit sounds from a cell phone or television directly into the hearing aid.  When used with a cell phone, you can talk directly into the TEK and and your voice will be transmitted to the cell phone so you can actually use it like a cell phone!

Siemens ePen Remote

The Siemens ePen Remote looks like an ink pen, but is actually a remote control for your Siemens Open Fit hearing aids.  Totally discrete!  Adjust the volume and change the listening programs of your hearing aids without anyone knowing!

I have a pair of these. They are great when they work, but the receivers seem to break a lot. I have replaced 4 in 2 years. Make sure the receivers are under warranty.
